Cashiers Emergency Food Collaborative
Vision Cashiers gives a heartfelt thank you to all our donors who have contributed to this collaborative. Because of your donations, we have raised enough money to continue feeding families throughout the summer.
When recent business and school closures created a food-insecurity crisis for residents in our area, Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau (BGCP), together with Slabtown Pizza and The Library Kitchen & Bar, organized a meal distribution program at their own expense to support those in need. Focusing initially on families in the BGCP network, 100 meals were provided the first day the effort was underway.
Since then, other restaurants have joined in to help address the growing need. Now operating collectively as the Cashiers Emergency Food Collaborative, an average of 175 dinner meals per day are being provided three days per week.
Vision Cashiers, a 501c3 nonprofit, coordinated the fundraising for this program so that the hardworking folks making it happen can remain focused on the day-to-day operations. In addition to helping feed hungry families in our community, this collaborative is also helping keep area restaurant workers employed and might ultimately help ensure the restaurants, themselves, are able to weather the current economic storm.
We are inspired by the innovative, dedicated members of our community who are working hard to support those in need.
